Phoenixes
Out in the street the lovers talk,
exchanging bouquets of themselves.
Among their shapes my sad thoughts walk,
phoenixes looking for their doves.
Phoenixes torn and scratched and grey,
yet raging with an angry life.
The fire that burns their veins all day
leaves both new blood and ash at night.
